5 Festive Halloween Journal Layouts on a Budget www.thediyday.com @thediyday

I’ve been meaning to post this all week, but was unexpectedly busy. After my stepping on a snake kerfuffle on Monday (read about that here), I didn’t want to spend much time at home.

Anyway, for the month of October, my journal layouts will all be Halloween themed.  My go to colors this month are oranges, blacks, whites, greys, purple and slime green. I don’t believe slime green is the correct terminology but it defines the color perfectly.

Adding a flair of Halloween is relatively easy and doesn’t need to cost much.  Here are five easy ways to create a festive Halloween layout without needing to spend a dime.

  1. Stripes – create black and white or black and orange stripes.  Stripes can be created vertically, horizontally, and diagonal.  The only question is – should the stripes be created with a ruler or freehand?
  2. Polka Dots – use a round household object or one of my two favorite circle tools, this circle maker, or this circle stencil.  The dots can be small, medium, or large or consider a mix of all three.
  3. Chevron – a chevron pattern is also fun to create but takes a bit more time.  The color combinations are limitless.  Black and white, purple and black, orange and black, slime green and purple, etc.
  4. Printables – print some Halloween patterns found online, color them, then cut and paste them onto a journal.
  5. Doodle – doodling is always fun.  For some easy Halloween doodles, visit a blog post I wrote over at Tombow USA.

I firmly believe a few of these will be incorporated in my layouts this month.  But for this week, my layout is fairly generic.  Check it out.

Supplies

Step One

For this layout, I used some washi tape to block off a portion of the notebook I wanted to keep white. Then, with my ink application tool and orange distress ink I colored the left and right sides of my page.

Step Two

Next, I placed my pumpkin stamps from The Sassy Club onto an acrylic block, applied some black ink, and stamped the pumpkins into the orange sections.

Step Three

I divided the rest of the layout into 8 sections using a ruler and a black drawing pen.

Step Four

With my orange brush pen, I lettered the month, added some details with a black drawing pen, and stamped some spiders to complete the halloween vibe.

Step Five

Last, using the same acrylic block and black ink pad from before, I stamped the days of the week stamps into each respective box.
