Journal Notebook - I Carried a Watermelon www.thediyday.com @thediyday

Yesterday was the 4th of July. Happy Birthday America!

The menu for this holiday celebration consisted of the fun traditional bbq foods. There was the hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, salads, and of course the watermelon. I can’t do a bbq without a watermelon.

Sidestory (4 days earlier) – After unloading my car from grocery shopping, the last item I grabbed was this 10 pound watermelon for the bbq. This instantly made me think of Baby from the movie Dirty Dancing. I said to myself, “I’m carrying a watermelon.” I started laughing and just about dropped my melon.

Once I got into the house, I turned on the tv, and there it was, Dirty Dancing, free on Prime.  So I watched it…obviously. Anyone else a Dirty Dancing fan?

Here are some of my favorite quotes from that movie –

“I carried a watermelon.”  • Baby

“Nobody put’s Baby in the corner.” • Johnny Castle

“Where is my beige iridescent lipstick?” • Lisa Houseman

“Oh, them. They’re the dance people. They’re here to keep the, uh, guests happy.” • Neil Kellerman

“Look, spaghetti arms.” • Johnny Castle

Ok, I’ll admit it.  I practically know this movie by heart.  How could I not?  I’ve been watching since like 1987.

Wow, a watermelon created an entire post about Dirty Dancing. How funny is that? I even made this weeks layout based on that 10 pound watermelon, check out the colors.

Supplies

Notebook
Ruler
Circle Stencil
Office Supply Stamps
Acrylic Block
Ink Pad
Brush Pens (green & pink)
Pink Neon Marker
White Pen

Step One

I planned on having 6 sections in this layout, one for each day of the week, with the weekend sharing one section. Because of those sections, I needed to stamp
office supply stamps on the page to complete the look. I used this black ink pad and this acrylic block. The ink I use works perfectly with this notebook, it doesn’t seep to the other side of the page. For more of my stamping tips and tricks, take my class on Skillshare and receive two months free!

Step Two

Next, with my bright green brush pen and circle stencil I made a circle at the bottom of each section and then I wrote in the dates with a bright pink brush pen.

Step Three

Then, I grabbed my neon pink marker (fine tip side) and ruler, and wrote in the date inside each circle.

Step Four

I used bright pink brush pen (725 ) and lettered the month. It looked a bit too plain so I added some dots with the same bright green brush pen that I used for the circles. Last, I added a few details to July with my white gel pen. This is by far the best white gel pen I’ve ever used. Many of the white gel pens I’ve tried clog quickly or they just don’t work all together, this one actually works.
