Journal Notebook - May Ombré Calendar 2018

I cannot believe it’s May. 2019 is just around the corner. Yes, I went there. Seriously though, this year is flying by. And with it comes change.

Just as Spring is a time for new beginnings, new perspectives and trying new things, change is rapidly approaching for thediyday.

Without going into details, not yet at least, what I will share is this…my husband and I are super excited for this change (no, I am not prego). Kinda funny how minds automatically go in that direction.

Anyway, this calendar serves as a form of countdown. As I look back at all of the calendars I’ve made in my notebook, I have yet to create one using circles.

It took a bit more time than I want to admit (45 mins), but I do appreciate the way it looks and will likely do another one. Check it out.

Supplies

Step One

First, I created a mini layout in pencil (it’s so not my style to do rough drafts). Usually I just go with the flow and create as the idea comes to me. But because this was the first time I was using circles for a calendar, I had to make sure I had the correct dimensions. I didn’t want to be caught mid-way through and realize the circle size I selected was too big or too small. Just like Goldilocks principle, it had to be just right. Once it was just right, I started circling away in my notebook. 35 circles to be exact. Now I could’ve just built 31 circles for the 31 days in May, but I wanted this layout to look symmetrical. So, with my circle stencil and some brush pens (5 graduated shades of purple), I created an ombré effect with each row.

Step Two

Once all of the circles were built, I placed my month/year stamp onto an acrylic block, added some ink, and stamped my layout.  These stamps are super cute and remind me of the flip clocks from the 80s. *The flip stamps are by Artist Gather. The company is in the process of moving so they aren’t filling orders currently. But leave an email address on their website for updates on shipping. The stamps are totally worth it.

Step Three

Then I placed my alphabet stamps onto a stamp block and abbreviated each day of the week above the circles.

Step Four

Last, with my black drawing pen I wrote in the days of the week inside each circle.
