UPDATE******This is the funnest card to make. I had to make this a couple more times before the whole fringe thing runs out of juice. So, I made an anniversary card. This time, instead of regular scissors, I used multibladed scissors. These scissors put a whole new meaning to cutting and was completed in no time. Check out the tutorial and make this card with regular scissors!

When I was a kid back in the 80s’, I remember my aunt had a lampshade with a black fringe border all the way around it.

For whatever reason, whenever I went to her house, I would play with the lamp. Now, I don’t know if “play” would be the right word to use, after all, what kind of kid plays with a lamp?!? A bit odd, right? But, I loved running my fingers through the soft strands of fringe.

I thought to myself, when I’m a older, I’m gonna have these kinds of lamps all over my house! Well, here I am, older, with no fringe lamp in sight.

Anyway, there’s an abundance of cards I need to make as summer birthdays are in full swing. Last week I made this cupcake birthday card, and this week I’m making one with fringe!

*This card and the dimensions I provide is for a 4″x6″ card.

Here’s how I did this one –

The person I was giving this card to loves the pool, the beach, and blue! So I collected my favorite blue sheets of decorative paper. The paper can also be from leftover scraps because the paper will eventually be trimmed down.

This is the selection of paper I gathered.

Next, I used my paper trimmer (similar here) and cut each piece of paper into 4″x1″ strips.

All the trimmed strips

Then, I marked and measured each strip to 1/4″.

I used the marking as a guide so I didn’t cut too far up the strip as I created the fringe look.

The fringe strips (don’t forget to erase the pencil lines)

I put the strips aside and started working on the base of the card. I decided to use my stamp block and banner stamp (similar here).

With with this ink, I stamped the image on the top part of the card.

Then, I used the black pen from this set to write happy and this one to write birthday.

Now, it’s time to add the fringe. I used this glue for that process.

I barely layered each fringe strip above the next.

Next, fan out the fringe to give it dimension.

I also added a 4″ long strip of ribbon with double stick tape.

With the same ribbon, I cut a 9″ strip and made a small very basic bow (similar to tying a shoe lace).

I used hot glue (similar) to adhere it.
