Me to my five-year-old niece,

when I was your age, a scoop of Thrifty’s ice cream was $.49!

My immediate thoughts right after, I can’t believe I just said that, yep, I’m officially old. Any sentence beginning with “when I was your age…” needs to be stricken from my vocabulary pronto.

Anyway, I haven’t been to Rite Aid in awhile…apparently a long while. Now, I didn’t expect the ice cream prices to still be the same as when I was six, but $1.99 a scoop?!?

Not more than 10 feet away, was the frozen section with the variety of Thrifty ice cream on sale, 2 for $6. Obviously I wanted more bang for my buck, so I did the deal. But now I’m obligated to eat all that ice cream so it doesn’t go to waste. There goes my diet.

So, this card is going to my niece, she turns six next week. It’s hard for me to believe I was once her age. And when she is my current age, that scoop of ice cream will likely be $26.

Card Details

I used these rubber stamps and matching die cuts. The die cuts make life so much easier, but cutting out the image works too.

After using the ice cream and cone die cuts in my Sizzix machine, with my acyrlic block, I stamped the base layer of ice cream using a light pink brush marker from this set.

Then I decided to use a basic watercolor brush and blend the pink a bit more.

Once the watercolor was completely dry, I used the second layering stamp with a darker shade of pink.

I did the same technique mentioned above with the brown and green scoops, and with the waffle cone. All brush markers were from this collection.

Next, I put the card together.

I started off by gluing the waffle cone onto the card stock.

For a 3D look, I used mounting tape for each scoop of ice cream.

I placed the green scoop on top of the cone first.

Right behind it, I put the brown scoop, and then the pink on top.

I decided to add a small die cut frame so I could write out happy birthday.

I used this pen to hand letter birthday.

Instead of just gluing it down, with a needle, I added two holes to both sides of the frame.

And added pink brads.
